Last year I was super lucky as I won a one to one consultation with Kirsten Kjaer Weis herself. We were talking about the foundation and how using an oil helps blending it. She very kindly sent me a sizeable sample of what is now called The Beautiful Oil. At the time the formula was not finalised yet, but I enjoyed using it. When it came out last month I immediately went online to check it out. I gasped at the price and at the formula. I decided to get a sample to see if it was the same oil that I tried last year and if it is worth considering spending 200 euros …

PERFORMANCE: the tester that I tried last year was scent free and the formula had more body and viscosity. My skin enjoyed it a lot. The final formula is lighter in texture – much more refined – and has a mild scent.

I applied the Beautiful Oil  both in the evening and during the day. When I used it in the evening it did not perform that well as I woke up with the sensation of thirsty skin – it was pretty tight. Also, the skin was not super glowing. During the day The Beautiful Oil works OK under the foundation, but I don’t find the formula super hydrating. I got used to use the amazing and my ultimate HG Hydrating Accelerator by Josh Rosebrook and whilst testing The Beautiful Oil I have not used it. Well, I can tell the difference!

What does not convince me is the ratio price / formulation. The “magic ingredient” in the Beautiful Oil is the Chinese Yam (Dioscorea Batatas Root Extract): but this is an ingredient that I found in other products such as the Modern Alchemist by Yuli. The formula of the Beautiful Oil is mostly carrier oils +  Dioscorea Batatas Root Extract + fragrance.·200 euros? I think that the pricing is quite ambitious. I am not too impressed with the final formulation of the Beautiful Oil and I am not going to go ahead with the purchase of the full bottle.

I am a massive fan of Kjaer Weis’ makeup line (99% of my makeup is by this brand and I keep repurchasing when I run out), but the final formula of the oil does not justify spending 200 euros IMO. True, it is 65 ml instead of the usual 30ml: but even if I consider the price of about 90 euros for 30ml the formulation is still not amazing enough to justify the expense.

There should be also a refil available later this month (at the time of writing this review it is not available yet) and I am not aware of the price. If it is around the 100 euros mark for 65ml it may be something you would like to consider (for 65 ml though!). Full price, not for me. I stick with Josh Rosebrook.

NOTE ON FRAGRANCE: Our fragrance is certified of natural origin and approved for use in organic products. It is a blend of essential oils and extracts. We are required to list it as fragrance as the exact breakdown is proprietary. Understanding the potential concern about hidden ingredients in fragrance, we selected this blend because it is certified of natural origin (contains nothing artificial) and it is approved by the CCPB for use in organic products.

SCENT: to me it smells of neroli. The scent is very mild, but it may be annoying if you are very sensitive to perfumes. See the note on fragrance above as it contains essential oils and it could cause problems for very sensitive skins.

HOW TO USE IT: it can be used for face, neck, hair and body. Warm up 5 or 6 generous drops of Beautiful Oil on the back of your hand. Apply morning or night to face, neck and décollété, being careful not to get oil into eyes.

When using under Kjaer Weis Foundation or Cream Blush, wait 3-4 minutes for oil to absorb into skin before applying makeup. Store at room temperature, out of direct sunlight.

This is a picture of the tester that I was kindly sent whilst the Beautiful Oil was being perfected.

it is an amber oil and it is easy to spread. It is not greasy on the skin and works well as a makeup base.

Blended into the skin.

65ml. The packaging is to die for, a work of art. Marc Atlan was involved and he created a beautiful glass bottle with metallic lid contained in the gorgeous red KW box. The bottle has a pipette.

A refil will be available later in March 2017.

I purchased the product with my money. It was NOT sent by PR and I did not receive any money to post this review.
